It detailed the behavior of chimpanzees in the wild and how Jane Goodall and friends studied them. If you're not interested in that sort of thing, it might get boring or something. But I was fascinated and found the book super interesting. I love learning about animals and chimpanzees are so cool. The stories about Flo's family, David Graybeard, Goliath, and Mike are so much fun.

One of my favorite facts was that chimps are more closely related to humans than they are to gorillas. They are our closest living relative but they're endangered which is really sad.

I read another of her books in anthropology 20 years ago. Very interesting to learn about how she started and the many things learned from chimpanzees.

I’ve heard Jane Goodall speak in a couple of interviews and was always struck by her but this was my first time reading any of her work. I thoroughly enjoyed this and sped through it in less than a week. Her writing is wonderful, you feel immersed in her world (and by that route in the world of the chimpanzees she studied). I can see moments where scientists today might be critical of her research decisions; but she’s open and honest about those choices and her reasons behind them. I appreciate that this book doesn’t attempt to give every single piece of data she had collected in the decade of research prior to publication, but rather selects a series of stories of individuals — really life stories in several cases — that serve to elucidate this world.
