Way too sexual and spoke about women as though their whole value was their bodies. And then the homophobia and sexism, misogyny and "lad banter" was shocking.
Also renaming the love of his life his English Rose (he basically changed her name) and not to mention raping her and treating her like an object to get back at the Germans. When she was the actual hero of this whole story.

I hated this book. I was very excited going into this book and was looking forward to reading it. And it fell so far short of my expectations.
The tone of this book is so bad. They start the book with the 'real' author saying he only told the real and true story of the man this is about Horance Greasley. However, it doesn't feel like that at all. There feels like this massive disconnect. I felt absolute no emotions for the main guy. He didn't feel like a real person and none of the situations felt real. I think this is in part to the writing it just felt off. Making none of the book interesting.
This book felt like Horance Greasley trying to re-live his best days. And it felt of. And also the sexual content made this is uncomfortable and I could not read it. There is also so many misogynistic comments that also made this so uncomfortable to read. It felt like we didn't get to know the love interest other than her looks.
Overall, hated this book and will never read this book again.
