Not as good as the first book. I think it was because there was less personal stake in it for Charlotte. It made it harder to really identify with her, when it just felt like she could turn into superwoman whenever. That rush of fear I got with her in the first book was missing here, and like Charlotte I knew she wasn't in any real danger. The writing was on point and concise, with good character building but a little of the heart got left behind. 3 out of 5 stars.

This book was better than the first one.. I would say because I now know what to expect and it's not really a thriller like I expected and the storyline is way better

It was a nice read. Wished, some of the relationships between the characters had some more depth, though. It wouldn't even be necessary to add more screen time for them, to add this feeling of them having deep, emotional bonds, just to shift their body language and wording a little bit, I think. The interactions between Cole and Noah and Bailey and Charlotte funnily enough felt the most authentic to me.
Still love the plot and whole over idea a lot.

Thrilling story with a plot that kept me turning the pages, really well written with great characters. Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre.

3.5 stars. I can’t decide if I like this series or not. I like the idea of it but both books so far have been a bit disappointing. The plot for this one was odd with 2 pretty disconnected stories back-to-back. The twist at the end though made me want to read the next one but maybe I should learn my lesson and stop.

Have you read Bone Music - the first book in the Burning Girl series? If not - go read that right away!! It was excellent - and if anything, Blood Echo is even better!
You will definitely want to read Bone Music first - the action in this book picks up soon after the ending in that one and I don’t want to say much about the plot because I think it would be spoilery.
What I will say is that both books are action packed, intense, and filled with lots of twists and turns. Charley is a totally kickass, strong female character and I hope we get to follow her through 15 more books. I absolutely love the dialogue between characters. And the ending!! I won’t give anything away but will say I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for book 3!
One final note - if you read the first book a while ago and are worried about whether you remember enough, don’t worry! Blood Echo does a great job of reminding you of all the key details without ever feeling like you’re reading a synopsis - plus Bone Music was so great that as soon as you get the hints it will all come back to you!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the early review copy in exchange for my honest review.
