I'm a massive fan of Tinkerbell, and the whole Disney Fairies line, including the movies. So I'd thought I'd give this a try, but the reality is that I struggle with middle grade and especially children's books, which this very much is.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, the art is stunning, and I do like seeing the magic of Neverland, and my favorite ship from the franchise, Tink and Terence. But it just didn't hook me, and it took way to long for me to actually finish it.

This was a cute, classic-type story that I enjoyed reading with my daughter. Levine really expands on Never-Land and makes it a fascinating place. But with that being said, I was surprised at how dark it got - the entire plot hinges on Mother Dove being badly injured and close to death, a fairy cuts off her wings (irreparable damage, that), an evil dragon has evil intentions, and Vidia has no qualms in inflicting pain on others so long as she benefits. Disney's recent movies may have used these books as a starting point but they didn't hesitate to distance themselves from the darker, more mature elements. The other reviews that mention these books having an identity crisis nailed it. The subject matter and writing style are for older children, but the many pictures and lack of depth would appeal more to younger children.

Well that was an entertaining little story. The fairies started off a tad annoying, but they got better as the story progressed. I see now why they're so popular. I wouldn't mind reading another book or two about the fairies. They were a nice little change from heavy adult reading.

Beautiful illustations. Fairies of Fairy Haven (including Tinkerbell!) must save their community after the egg that Mother Dove sits on 24/7 to keep their land immortal gets cracked in a hurricane. Also features a charming newborn fairy named Prilla.

With beautiful illustrations by David Christiana, this spin on Neverland by Gail Carson Levine is an enchanting tale. The magic of the book is full of child-like curiousity and wonder. The characters are delightful, with quirks and talents that shine. As the first book in a trilogy, this is a wonderful world to step into!

this book has semi-bad reviews on here. I haven't read it since I was maybe 9, and I wasn't the most critical reader at that age. for some reason this book came to mind today, and I thought about how much I used to love the story and how I read it so many times. I went searching for it to reread it, but realized I had sold it a few years ago. I used to be a fan of all things Disney fairies, and I read almost every "Pixie Hollow Adventures" books. I guess this one got lumped in with all of those. this book is so different than them, though. it has beautiful illustrations and a lovely story. I wish I still had it, because I have such a soft spot for it. I hope I find another copy soon.
