THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD. I can't believe I waited two whole years to read it because I wouldn't even give it a chance past the first chapter. I regret it so much. This was so much better and so much different than I thought it was and I absolutely loved it. I already ordered the next four books and I cannot wait to read all of them!

Unlike most books made into movies, I saw the movie first on this book. Not surprisingly this book surpassed the movie. I really enjoyed Clary, Simon and Jace. The characters and world building were excellent and I felt like I was in the book as I read it. So glad I finally got around to reading this book.

1st Read: 2008
2nd Read: September 2011
3rd Read: May 2013

This was my third time reading City of Bones and it was just as amazing as reading it for the first time a few years ago. There are always things you notice when you reread a book and it makes you think about events that will happen in the next books which the characters can't even imagining happening at the time. It's also wonderful to see how Cassie has become even better as a writer with every book she has written. City of Bones started it all - it was the beginning to TMI, also the beginning to TID. Without CoB, TId would never have happened either. Without it - and without Cassie, of course - the Shadow World would never have existed. And for that I'm very grateful.

That's quite a short review but all I have to say about a book I'll give 5 stars each time all over again, no matter how often I'll read it.

A decent plotline for the younger crew though somewhat graphic and bloody. The fantasy world created in the series is much less believable than that of, let's say, Harry Potter. The twists and turns in plot feel fabricated though they may be accepted without question by the younger readers.

(SPOILER FREE!)
I loved this book! It was so fast paced and its one of those books that you can read without looking at the page number. A lot went on in this book. At the start I thought that maybe Clary should have found out about the Shadow World and Downworlders and all that stuff later on in the book, but I was wrong. Clary finding out earlier did impact on the book and I feel that if she hadnt of found out when she did the book wouldn't be right.
(SPOILERS AHEAD!)
So then Valentine comes along and Clary is trapped behind this glass screen watching helplessly as Valentine takes Jace. Clary being Clary of course, waits until Hodge leaves and goes after him! Only to run into a werewolf; who is shortly after revealed to be Luke(Clary's mother's friend). With Hodge having ran off they then set off to find Valentine with a pack if wolves at their side. Of course they reach their destination and Clary goes to find Jace. "Its all a mistake" he says. Turns out that Valentine is Jaces dad! making Clary and Jace brother and sister- but they're in love. I feel like this was a huge plot twist to put into the first book; but it made you want to grab the second book right away! I love Cassandra Clares writing and I really suggest you pick The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments series up.
