Good read, but loses A Lot of steam once General Spielsdorf enters the stage proper. Carmilla is almost entirely shoved out as a character of her own, and instead a lot of exposition dumping and deus ex machina-ing is done.

Love the lore, but it could have been drawn out or weaved into the period of Laura's decline more, I think.

Cited as the precursor to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and I can certainly guess why. Mildly spooky and definitely entertaining. I would certainly recommend for anyone looking for a short classic horror novel.
