This book was very interesting. After awhile it got repetitive but I think that is mainly because he wants people to realize the injustice that is going on.

the one word I have for this book is profound.

Jonathan Kozol is the conscience of education in this country, which he once again proves with this book. Even though the societal ravages he describes these children undergoing make Job's sojourn seem like a walk beach, the children remain the soul of innocence. This is a motivational book: it may turn you into an advocate for underprivileged children in your own community, like the champions depicted in these pages. Always, always, though, his focus is on these beautiful children who are being neglected and left behind by the cold and uncaring, bureaucratic society in which we all live.

Opened my eyes to reality that I don't see because I live in a very sheltered world, not too far away from where the children in this book live. Really makes you question your priorities. This author is amazing for bringing to light some of the social injustices in our own backyards.

This is such an important book. Every elected official should be made to read it before they are sworn in.

EVERYONE should read this book. It is emotionally difficult, as it should be.
