If you want to learn about more women authors of note and what they've written, this short book can give you insight, both historical and personal. The illustrations are wonderfully symbolic. The author writes a brief comment that goes along with the sketch. The most valuable information is a listing of each author's works (prose or poetry). The only drawback is the brevity of the book, but it is a keeper.

This book was OK: it’s mostly just a picture book with a short one page blurb about each author and a reading list. I don’t know, I kind of expected more in-depth examination of these authors? And their supposed witchiness? A disappointment.
Definitely a borrow from the library book, not a buy for the bookshelf book.

Beautiful illustrations used along with written portraits of women in writing. Features small bios and a list of recommended works.

it is a good guide for who wants to get to know some of the women writers that history does not always tell about.

This book is much more than selection of biographies for some women writers, and that is what makes it so great. First, while it does include short biographies for the 30 chosen writers (including a decent number of poets), there are also recommended works to read by each artist and poetic prose pieces that describe the essence of both the authors and their works. Second, the art accompanying each description works seamlessly with the poetic prose. In fact, the author, Taisia Kitaiskaia, and the illustrator, Katy Horan, also created a set of oracle cards based on the book. Looking at the illustrations this does seem like an obvious choice. Finally, the writers selected are diverse, from multiple countries, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Yes, there are some well-known faces here, like Emily Bronte and Toni Morrison, but I was delighted to learn about (unknown to me) writers Alejandra Pizarnik and Yumiko Kurahashi. I have definitely made some additions to my TBR list since reading this book.

I really enjoyed this collection. There were many authors I had never heard of. I wish there had been more of a thorough explanation for each author. Some got more information than others.
