Some people have said that the odd numbers in this series are better than the even numbers. I don't think that way. I've been taking them at face value and reading and enjoying them as I go. (I'm part way through #3)
This time around they're seasoned and ready to make a difference. Things don't seem to be going their way in regards to the war and yet they're still fighting on.
I found their growth to be interesting. Each of their personalities is changing and growing in a way that makes me want to pull them out of the book and allow them to be normal teens again.

I was a bit disappointed by this book. I went in on such a high after loving the first one, but honestly NOTHING happened in this book. It was so painfully slow, and heavily character driven which I can understand but it kind of felt like a filler book to me. I wanted more action and less teen angst. Not sure if I'll be continuing the series.

I mostly enjoyed the book but felt the sex scenes could have been far shorter. They don't really add anything to the overall story.
I am also glad I have the option of just buying them with one click and having the next book instantly because so far they don't feel like they have a real end. It makes me wonder how they sold in the 90s. What keeps people interested in these books if they have to wait forever for the next instalment when nothing particularly cliff hangery happens at the end? I don't know if I would have been keen enough to wait 6 years to find out how it all ends.

The war continues in this story with the group of teenagers doing their best to adapt, survive and fight back all while wondering if they will all make it through this nightmare.
This is my first time reading this book in the series and I was hooked. What I enjoyed in this first book continued throughout this book and kept me engaged.
This story has:
*like it's predecessor, great pacing. There is descriptions and 'less action' parts but this works well to heighten the drama felt in the other sections.
*it's not a fairytale. I tried to guess the plot twists but refreshingly I was guessing wrong. Nothing was predictable and safety was never ensured.
*the changing dynamics and maturity of the characters as they react to the 'new normal' was well done. The changing landscape, opinions and emotions seemed believable.
I recommend this book to anyone who has read or watched Tomorrow When the War Began. Just keep reading. It's worth it.
