Utterly charming picture of small town life in the French Canadian countryside in the 1920s, really quite terrific.

Many people told me great things about this story, so I finally decided to give it a try.

The main reason I'm giving this one 4 stars is because of the illustrations. They are not my cup of tea, but I can still see how amazing they are.

As for the story itself, I guess I was expecting something grander. The story is very normal. About normal people of a little village in Quebec. We get to see all these different personalities and relations. Everything we would expect to find in a diverse group of people, good and bad characters. There are a few emotional moments.

I still enjoyed. When it's well written, even a story about normality can be enticing.

The book feels like an introduction to the characters so I expect that the best is still to come. We'll see.
