This one was fun. After the events of the previous book, Alex goes in search of his 'destiny'.

I also like the fact that Alex is slowly starting to make 'friends' and tell people about who he really is. Because honestly, I think I'd tell my friends too. After everything that has gone on with MI6, he needs to let someone in.

I love the fact he finally got some information about his parents. More so his dad than his mother. It was long overdue.

Still plugging away at this series. More than halfway done.

Well! Finally, an Alex Rider book adds up to more than the sum of its parts. There's a flicker of genuine darkness and danger (less Moore, more early Connery) and even a little pathos as the twin ciphers of Mr Blunt and Mrs Jones come to life a little. Actually looking forward to the next one. My son, of course, has burned through the lot and it's going to take a roll of gaffer tape to beat off the spoilers...

Sabotage. Corruption. Intelligence. Assassination. Scorpia.
Seven letters that were now on the database of every police force and security agency in the world.

A surprisingly dark reread 😨 More focus on backstory than the first four books 🙂
PS Did you know…different editions of this book have different beginnings? In this edition, Alex is in Venice with Tom (and Jerry) because of their parents’ divorce, not because of a school trip! 😮

Spoiler quote below 🚨‼️
It's a terrible thing to kill a human being. But is it so much worse to kill a twenty-seven-year-old man who will never be twenty-eight than a fourteen-year-old boy who will never be fifteen?
