Boring, derivative and adds nothing to the series

I’m not sure why so many reviews thought this compendium was anything but what it is. It’s a quick guide (or maybe not so quick) to FBAA and F&F. It’s not meant to be “new” information, but rather a way to look up something you may have forgotten or can’t find the description in one of the MANY books in the world. It’s like an encyclopedia. I didn’t expect anything new or revealing really, but like the 2 pieces we did get. Willa, quite frankly, I could have skipped.

I will say to fully experience it I feel like you need it digital and printed. Digital is great for the links to the colored photos and maps (almost 50 in total!). Print made the news article, letters, etc easier to read since they’re pictures and tiny in digital (well, at least on my phone haha).

On that note…I wish this came out after the series were completed. Unless everything we’ll ever know is in the compendium, I feel like we’re going to miss (2? 3?) books of potential information to add.

I do like the addition to my shelf, though, and it will come in handy since I don’t plan to do a reread before the next book!

It’s not indispensable and maybe premature (could at least waited for FF to be done!), but I had fun looking at the pictures, reading the 3 bonus chapters and Willa diary entries.
Did not read everything, as it’s still fresh in my memory. But will be useful when the next Blood & Ash book comes out, will not have to reread the series.

This is a really thorough and helpful review of all that has happened up until this point in Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire. However, it is long, tedious, and repetitive. It took me quite some time to get through.

I tried because I really enjoyed both series. But this was a retelling of the series all at once. I gave up about 30 pages into the 62 page recap of one character. I did enjoy the pages that were of Miss Willa’s diary and had assumed the book would be more like that rather than extended cliff notes version of books.
