I finally finished a book in like MONTHS!! Unnatural follows a girl pig named Leslie who loves all things sushiand has erotic dreams of having sex with a wolf!! In this world, the government interferes with their citizens lives by integrating them via species. Citizens are only allowed to be with their species kind and the opposite sex! Turns out, Leslie's dreams are very dangerous and now people are after her and Leslie is now on the run...
I'm rating this book 4 stars because this book was very wanky and creative! It was kind of weird that Im reading a graphic novel where animal species are having sex and being naked but, who cares!?!

I enjoy things like this. Satires that are allegorical and also beautifully drawn. AKA, things that are just plain strange.

Wow, this graphic novel is so gorgeous! I love this pastel goth vibe and Leslie's such a sweet, likable protagonist. I was a little confused early on as to who I was supposed to be rooting for as far as the other characters go, and there were some little twists I definitely didn't see coming. The plot is a little bit terrifying, as it kind of reminds you of some sort of twisted dystopia, only with anthro animals instead of regular humans. I was really just fascinated by the character designs and the storyline as a whole, and I definitely am interested in seeing what happens next!

A furry erotica emo fantasy come true! This beautiful, almost innocent story takes a dark turn and keeps descending further. Unpredictable, unflinching, and deserving of the attention its got.

I think I hyped myself up too much for this, but it was still an enjoyable read.

The stars in my rating are mainly for One: the beautiful art, and Two: for having a social commentary that is more straightforward and not-so metaphorical (I'm looking at you Moore who confused the heck out of me).
Mirka Andolfo and her team have done a great job here. The art and style of the characters is what caught my eye while I was browsing my local comic shop. And when I started reading it I was readily intrigued to continue a contemporary, social commentary about need for equality with a little bit of fantasy thrown in.
But I was not expecting the last two issues to go all Bourne Identity-style thriller on the plot.
But I have a big thought because I was super confused about how people are labeling this comic.
So...if the comic's target audience was people who are into anthros getting it on then I'm sure it found it. If the comic's purpose was to be smutty just because this is an anthro world and Andolfo is also into that, then I think it fulfilled purpose. If that's what people like then that's fine with me--you do you, bro.
What I DON'T understand is why Image Comics (and people reading it) place this in the erotica genre. The sexual content (in these first four issues, anyway) is mediocre compared to other comics such as Saga or Grendel that aren't placed in the genre of erotica but have much more graphic content.
In this series erotica is more of a theme and not labeled as such because of content specifically. The only exposed body part we see are boobs and only a few times in this first volume. This comic gets readers to keep reading more for the expectations and tension sex rather than the actual sexual acts between characters. The women are dressed in revealing clothing, sexual banter and jokes are used often, the main character can’t stop having wet dreams about an ancient god, and their very society forces them to mate with a like species once they’re of a certain age.
I am not into erotica, I don’t seek it out and I prefer not to view it if I have the option. But I find it fascinating that tone and theme alone (paired with at least one boob flash) can get people to agree that this aroused them despite the minimal sexual content and more plot-based storytelling.

Unnatural has some great artistic talent and clever commentary on our current political situation, but fell flat and down-right confusing in tonal change when bodies started dropping and when the plot felt like it went AWOL despite vague foreshadowing.
Barely pushing three stars, but I did enjoy two thirds of this volume. Curious to see if the story can remedy itself continuing on.
