Charming, delightful, and a joy to read, and re-read, and re-read some more with my 6 year old son. The only danger of this book is the inevitable need for the reader to go out and adopt all the Arfies!

I've read this in Storytime before, but it's so cute and fun! I love reading the letters and the kids love the happy ending!

Can I Be You Dog? is a lovely story written in letters from a stray dog asking people in his neighborhood if he can be their dog. Who will take in this sweet, scruffy pup? Keep reading to find out!

Such a cute, unique story. A lonesome dog writes letters to every person on his street, looking for someone to love him. After each rejection he grows more discouraged and moves on to the next home on his list. Sprinkles of humor throughout help drive past the sadness of the story and sustain until the happy ending.
Great talking and teaching points about adopting dogs who need homes, as well as letter writing!

I read this for a school-age storytime. It's an epistolary story told completely through letters, primarily from Arfy the dog who is searching for a new owner. There's a great back-and-forth between Arfy and each household who denies him until ultimately he receives a happy ending with an owner. It's great to demonstrate the different ways letters can look and how mail works. The kids really liked this book, and they used clues from the pictures to guess whether or not the house to which Arfy was writing would reply yes or no.
