The first one had a high body count, but this one was more gruesome. I read a review beforehand that compared Tom and Hester to Hosea and Gomer, so I can’t help but see the story through that lens. Not my favorite genre, but I’m interested enough to see where it goes.

Surprisingly good. Not a tough read, and overall not shocking, but the characters behave believably and the world is expanded upon in fun ways.

Wow, I liked this book better than the first one and it took me by surprise. Easier to get into the plot when you already have a bit of an understanding of how the world works - although it's tricky enough that I still had a hard time when I tried to explain it to someone.
There is a quote from the book that I thought summed up the feel of the thing when I was listening to it: "He wasn't sure what the crew of a vampire parasite spider ice machine might want with a young aviator, but he couldn't imagine it was anything nice."

Very good for a sequel, and we see more of the world.
