If Johnathan Swift were alive today, his rewrite of 'A Modest Proposal' might have been an apt partner read to Forsyth's latest.
Forsyth still has it 'stone cobra'. _The Cobra_ is his classic potboiler method, using exactly the same style he first inked in the late 60s. Tight plot, technical orientation, current events, a few protaginists from the UK and US. Pragmatic. He's always been a cut above Tom Clancey. Forsyth chose the 'off the front page' topic of illegal drugs, and writes a believable story.

My man Fred just fucking loves logistics and I can vibe with that.
Great pace, as always with Frederick Forsyth. The writing at times didn't hit the mark for me, but this was still a really fun read.
I am a sucker for stories of international intrigue & this one certainly fit the bill!

I never actually write reviews, but this one is special. We read this with the intent to enjoy how terrible it is, as a group book club for a friend beach trip. This is an awful book, but hilariously so. It made basically no sense. The catalyst is asinine. You meet 100 characters with detailed back stories, but 5 of them are relevant. You basically never see the character the book is written about?? There is a weird and pointless reference to ‘aggressive lesbians’. Honestly, there’s a ton of extremely questionable language choices in here amidst the pretentious vocabulary words. I have probably 50 more complaints, but I won’t belabor the point. The ending was particularly funny. As proper literature, 1 star. As a funny solid hate read, 10 stars.

An interesting view into the drug cartel world with a Holmesian character and modern technology.
Normally I like Forsyth, but this was pretty lame. Certainly his worst book, at least of those I've read.
