VERY helpful. A bit too long though. I didn't need all the testimonials. But again, VERY helpful.

25 years after it being published, the advice in this book still applies. It was a book to read a chapter at a time and then spend some time pondering. I've already found myself using some of the techniques and look forward to using them more with my kids. Highly recommend for parents who want to decrease the yelling and increase the positive communication.

Loved, loved LOVED this book! This helped me so much and was very easy to read. I need to keep reminding myself of the skills I learned in it, but it gave me many more tools for my gentle-parenting toolbox.

I really, really loved this book. So much so that I photocopied certain pages to remember forever. This isn't just a book to 'deal' with kids--it's a book about respect, space, empowerment, and listening to everyone. I loved that, not only did they give an explanation of why we should talk with respect, but also how to do it. And not in a paragraph form, but with illustrations and then a recap! It's like these writers know that the way to actually take it all in is by repeating it in different forms. Genius!

I even enjoyed the letters portion of the book, which typically I poo-poo because it's just a handjob of how well that approach works--which of course, these letters did--but they 'picked' letters that actually reinforced what I read in the chapters before, further nailing it securely in my brain.

Just by doing little things I already notice so much in my relationship with my son. It's amazing how much words can change everything!

I bought this book years ago, and promised myself I would pick it up every other year or so. Now seems about right, as Luca tests us on all new, much more vocalized and opinionated levels ;-)

Update: This book still blows me away. It's so easy to forget how to talk to your kid to help them to talk to you....and then you use any of the techniques in here and POOF, like magic, it frickin' works. Now, to keep it going consistently is the hardest part. But that's why I actually own this book, as a reminder of the tools.

My only wish for this book is that I was hoping for a final chapter round-up of all the techniques. Yes, I know that I could just flip through each chapter to look through each one, but having one long list is way easier to put on the fridge and refer back to. And while the praises from parents bothered me at first, I can see why they did it...as it helped me remember the tools mentioned throughout.

This is already changing the way I both view and communicate with my almost 2 yr old! So many helpful examples, simple yet impactful reframes, and ready-to-implement strategies. Recommend for anyone who ever works with kids or wants to parent!!! Never too early or too late to pick up this book as the author says.
