I’m not sure how to rate this book. I think because my Dad has Parkinson’s like the MC, Maddie’s, Dad I felt especially sensitive reading about her experience as a caretaker/in the aftermath, so I’m simply not going to give it a rating.

I listened to this book and it was a slog. Maddie says it herself: she’s not a good time. Maddie is lonely and depressed through the bulk of the book, so it was lonely and depressing to read. She’s one of those characters everything happens to, which means she takes very little responsibility for the situations she finds herself in. The upswing in her life (new flat, new friends, new job, new relationship etc) is short lived, which I might have expected if I’d more closely read the book jacket.

A charming story that I enjoyed reading very much. At first I was a bit frustrated with the main character, as she came across as such a doormat. But as the story progressed Maddie came out of her shell, so to speak and really grew into herself. It was a very realistic story and wonderfully written. I highly recommend.
