TALK ABOUT LAYERS at no point ever did i fully know what’s going on despite thinking i had all of the pieces every single time. it was a beautiful blend of culture and story telling and plot twists for DAYS

I hadn't read a quest fantasy in a long time and it was so good!
I loved the characters growth through the book and I real;ly didn't expect a lot of what happened in the second half of the book (maybe I'm just dumb but I love it).
It was nice to have a fantasy book without romance as a main plot.
I loved the stories inside of the story and Mazen's love for telling them.
Loulie and Aisha are truly amazing and I can't wait to see if we learn more about Qadir.

This book was 468 pages, and I didn’t enjoy a single one of them.

Way too similar to City of Brass for this to be unique enough to enjoy. Not sure who copied whom, but when something feels like a rip-off it’s automatically demoted a star. I understand it’s a re-envisioning of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, but there’s got to be a way to make it more original.
