Book 26 of 2023 and the first book of spooky season was Devil’s Creek by Todd Kiesling. It was a perfect start to the Halloween season with a wonderful mixing of Lovecraftian horror with the paranoia and anxiety of small town religious extremism. Kiesling’s narrative voice does a wonderful job of being character focused even when disturbing and horrific events are taking place. 5
