I´ve recently discovered Mhairi McFarlane and having loved If I Never Met You, I had high expectations for this one. Somehow, and unfortunately, I didn´t love it as much. I´m not entirely sure why.
I liked that it was partly set in London and partly in Newcastle. I have lived in London for a while so reading some of the sections brought back memories and I knew exactly how Delia felt in the summer heat that seems to get trapped in the streets, the car fumes that are ever present, the commuting... Nevertheless I much preferred the bit that took place in Newcastle, which might be a sign for me. I loved her other book because of it being set in Manchester, so maybe I just really appreciate books in other parts of the country...
The bit about Parsnip was a bit unexpected and had me in tears and I loved the storyline around PN and Delia´s brother. I also really liked her friendship with Emma, but I never really grew to like Delia much. In If I Never Met You, I would have loved to be the protagonist´s friend, in this one, I really didn´t though.
It is a cute story and I love how Delia finds herself in it, but it just wasn´t very interesting or engaging, to me, despite there being some mystery involved. I also thought it could be about 100-200 pages shorter... I love McFarlane´s writing though, so I will make sure to read more of her work!

Honestly, I can't get over Parsnip...he was just written so realistically and exactly how many people who adopted olter and mroe problematic pets that it contribute to the whole 'this book just feels right' vibe.
It's a love story, it's almost destined to end how it ended, but it's most definitely refreshing to see something build gradually, to be made in equal parts of tingles in the stomach and of 'I'm mad at him/her'.
This book gives so many good avice in the form of a pleasant read, definitely recommended

It was a fun book though kind of irritating that everyone always goes to live in London in these kinds of romances. There are other cities. I liked the main character though she was a bit of a doormat and at times I wanted to strangle her. The characters were very well developed and I know people like them especially her brother which I liked too.
Overall a bit predictable but that’s what I was in the mood for.

So funny I laughed out loud multiple times. Also a few heartfelt moments.
