I think I am going to do a review of this whole series after I finish book 3 but for myself:
*What happened to Maddox's psychotic girlfriend?

The second book sees Seneca, Maddox, Aerin, and Madison tracking a chameleon-like killer after they realised at the end of the first book that he was probably the one who killed Seneca's mother and Aerin's older sister. Now social media star, Chelsea Dawson, has gone missing after a party and Chelsea looks eerily like Aerin's sister. Is the same killer involved and how can the group stop him from taking more victims?
This was an improvement on the first book, the main group weren't quite so obnoxious and there was quite a clever twist at the end of the book. A couple of other things strained credibility but overall it was a quick undemanding read.

I loved reading this book and it went by quickly with me reading a majority of it on the bus to and from school (it is about half an hour to 45 minutes in one direction). I did not do much reading at home since I was busy with homework and other things.
I believe that the book didn't have the same feel as the last one just because you already kinda know who the suspect is, but I still liked this book. I loved the last half of the book though. If not for that, I might have given this a three star rating honestly.
I found the first half of the book to be kind of dull in comparison to the beginning of the last book but there were some parts I enjoyed. I found Chelsea's disappearance to be interesting, and the fact that Brett found his way into Seneca's room as she and Madison were sleeping. The second half was so much better in my opinion.
I'd recommend this for fans of Sara Shepard, missing girls, and hidden stalkers.
FINAL THOUGHT: popularity

I received a free ARC of this book from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
The only bad part about getting an advance copy of this book is that the wait between this book and the next will be even longer than if i hadn't bought it until it was released! That was quite a cliffhanger to leave it on.
I enjoy how there's more going on in these books than it first appears, and how in the end everything ties together and shows an even bigger picture than you imagined.
At first I was worried that this book might be stale, since we've already done the "lying to your parents" drama from the first book and all the characters are now established and know each other, but I think moving it to a new location and changing it from murder to kidnapping kept it fresh. I also enjoyed how more details about Seneca's mom are being revealed.
And my favourite creepy thing in these books is how we get to delve even more into Brett's intense misogyny and how societal misogyny prevents women from being taken seriously when they've been the victims of crimes. How all women and girls, even/especially? those perceived as being shallow arfe seen as being less able to be real victims and more likely to fake things for attention. A lot of people may see these as being ~shallow teen detective novels~ but there is a lot of social commentary packed into them.

When a young woman, Chelsea Dawson, who fits the same description of Aerin’s sister and Seneca’s mom, goes missing the team get back together to try and find her before her kidnapper can kill her. They already know who is behind everything, but can they get enough evidence to take him down? This novel did not disappoint. The reader was really worried that this novel would be a letdown after the first installment was, surprisingly, really good. This novel took the characters to new places and plots to new highs. Each chapter left the reader feeling suspended like anything could happen at any moment. The fact that the reader, and the characters, knew who the killer was, but couldn’t find him through all his disguises and hacking abilities really threw the story for a loop. This was highly suspenseful and full of tension, but the reader couldn’t get enough. The minor romantic side plots the reader could do without, but they didn’t take the reader out of the story and it flowed pretty well to not be distracting. The characters were really well developed. The killer made the reader so angry in the way he could psychologically play with the reader’s mind and the way he dictated how the other characters chose their next move, maddening. It was also good to see the other main characters try to solve this case and use their experiences to watch them grow and work through their insecurities. Shepard is really good at creating very detailed characters, especially in such a short amount of time, as this novel is just shy of 300 pages. The way this novel ended leaves the reader in full uncertainty about where the third book is going to go and what the killer’s plans and motives are. Overall, this was a fast-paced and well executed addition to an already additive trilogy.

I enjoyed the prologue and the way it turned sinister so suddenly. After the prologue, I found it a bit confusing to work out who everyone was, but this is probably because I haven't read the first book in the series.
Seneca and her friends helped to solve a murder mystery but soon after, she finds out that Brett, one of the group, was the real murderer and he got away with it unpunished. Now there has been a kidnapping and Seneca is convinced it fits the pattern of previous murders. When Brett gets in touch Seneca knows she is right and gets the group together to solve this mystery, but it seems that they are just doing exactly what Brett wants them to do. He's playing with them and if they don't stick to his rules he will kill his latest victim, and maybe even the rest of the group.
All the kids are pretty smart and quickly solve the clues that Brett leaves them, though Seneca is almost completely clueless when it comes to boys who like her. This is a very creepy novel, not one to read in the middle of the night. You'll feel like someone could be watching you at any time. It was gripping in parts, but not enough to keep me hooked all the way through. The suspense really ramps up at the end though. There's a bit of a cliffhanger and set up for the next book so I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied. Overall an enjoyable book but I'm not sure if I will continue with the series.

I like these stories, even though the characters are the dumbest detectives in fiction. They miss everything, have zero investigative skills, and mostly just wander around making things worse. But - it doesn't matter. They are still nice stories, and I'm off to find the third one.

Way more predictable than the first one but I guess that's because you knew who the killer was before the book started if you had read the first book.
Other than that it was still very intriguing, I finished very fast and I am super excited for the next book to come out.
