A very cute book, written in rhyme, that shows the adventure penguin has when he is taken away on a kite. The animals work together to help penguin and get back home. The pictures are small so it would make a better one-on-one story.

A cute - if relatively bland - rhyming story about a penguin who gets whisked away to a jungle island via kite. Other arctic animal friends (who try in vain to stop his ascent) get whisked along with him, which is a bummer, but at least it means he has help with figuring out how to get off that dang island. A parachute made out of jungle foliage is fashioned, and a hearty gust from an elephant's trunk sends them sailing back to their home. My favorite part of the whole book were the cute little swirls in the water. I don't know why -- I just think little cinnamon bun swirls are the cutest things!!

Will be nice to read in storytime
adventurous challenging funny medium-paced

This book is so cute and funny!! I like the secondary plot that happens in the pictures.

This is a lovely children's book, which is the Waterstones' Children's Book of the Month for April.
It's a delightfully illustrated story about a penguin who is swept away with his kite, and all of his friends who get caught up in the adventure too.
The illustrations are crisp, clear and full page, with dynamic text positioning, allowing for some lovely games when reading with your kids. There are lovely details to look for, extra hidden bits to read and numbers to practice counting.

Plus it is all super cute with penguins and monkeys and stuff!

I'm glad I bought this. It is the start of my collection of children's picture books, which I am gathering for my future children, and what a lovely way to start the collection!

This is silly and cute and full of rhyming adventures, just like I love them. :) It is beautifully illustrated and full of amusing details. Perfect for little kids.

Beautifully illustrated.

This is a cute book with fun, colorful drawings. The color changes that happen throughout the book make each location strikingly different, sometimes almost overwhelmingly so. The charm of the verse, which doesn't falter in rhythm, carries the story forward without feeling forced. A charming story I'd be happy to read over and over to my nieces and nephew.

"...There's no denying, this penguin wasn't built for flying." And yet, Blue the Penguin, along with Penguins Jeff and Flo take to the sky on the end of the string to s brand new kite. Picking up friends along the way, the South Pole denizens find themselves marooned on a "tiny island, lush and green." But penguins aren't made for tropical climes, plus Jeff misses his mother. So with help of some new found friends, they once again feel the comfort of "feet on solid ice." The naive, brightly colored illustrations contribute to the whimsy of the story, So about that whimsy....some folks have complained that Clive the Polar Bear would not live in the same environment as penguins Blue, Jeff, and Flo. Yup, that's true. But neither would they all be transported by kite to a tropical island, Nor would they make their way home with the help of an elephant. While I understand that author/illustrator Biddulph took creative license, I would have missed Clive and his red rubber dinghy if he were removed from the story,

Beautifully illustrated.
