2014 review:
Well, Darren Shan, you've done it again. Absolutely fantastic.

I had a really hard time finding a copy of this book; and I'm slightly annoyed that the cover doesn't match all of my other books in this series. For some reason they never published the last book in the covers I have, which is annoying (even though they are ugly and i would have preferred the others to begin with).

But this book, oh my gosh. It's been so long since I read the one before it; I'd forgotten how much I love Darren Shan's writing. He's one of the only writers whose plot twists continuously surprise me. I love it.

It was lovely slowly meeting people that I recognise from the series these books are based on, 'The Saga of Darren Shan.' They're all so well developed, and witty! The shots that they fire at each other all the time are hilarious!

I loved this book- absolutely loved it- and I recommend that anyone and everyone reads it! (after you've read all of the others first, of course)

2024 review:
yep this one was amazing! a great finale to this prequel series. i knew there was a wester twist this time but didn't immediately remember it was about alicia...gut wrenching!!! and as to my complaints to a non matching cover, well now i have a signed copy i won from one of darren's giveaways like 8 years ago now so it all worked out great lol

Spoiler alert!

This was a dark one. A good ending but sad.

Never knew how sad it could be, to be in the moment of someone making a choice that would lead to their demise. But then again, if Larten had become a Prince... would he have ever met Darren?

Seeing where Truska came from was also nice, even when looking at her glum future.

Hating Destiny more than ever, it is truly bittersweet seeing Larten looking at Darren and knowing they will have a great relationship and adventure while from the start Larten seemed to know that this would mean his end in one way or another.
Also the betrayal of Wester!? So uncalled for and no them fighting and ending it with "I love you"????? I am glad I found this and even though this now will consume me and make me absolutely sad... I am glad I could be on this adventure with the characters.

I could read a thousand books more about Larten Crepsley, and the ending really made me want to reread the Darren Shan Saga again!
