Do you have children who enjoy dinosaurs and may have even asked if dragons were real? What if dragons were dinosaurs or vice versa? Well look no further than this brilliantly and beautifully illustrated book called Dragons: Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs published by New Leaf Publishing. My children couldn’t wait to get their hands on this book as soon as it arrived – with their fascination of all things dinosaurs and knowing that there are Biblical accounts of dragons this book was a great fit for our family.
The book seeks to sort out the history that we know as dragons and from a Christian and Biblical viewpoint. Every continent has their own form of dragon legend and lore whether they are epic dragons in Europe or water dragons in Australia, we all have them. With fold outs and secret hiding places in the book it takes a hands-on approach to learning about these mythical creatures.
There are documented sightings of dragon-like animals, and not just in the Bible either. A mini-book inside gives eyewitness accounts and encounters in which you’ll read about John of Damascus, Marco Polo, Athanasius Kircher and more. An included ”dragon timeline” shows the datings of dragons and their sightings like Job’s writings of Behemoth, Leviathan between 2000 and 1800 B.C.
The books is laid out in the following manner:
A Tangles and Twisted History/Legends and Lore
Myth or Legend (continental dragons)
Legends from around the globe (envelopes filled with illustrations and text about dragons from Babylon, Greece and other places)
Flying Serpents
Two page fold out spread on Dragons and Dinosaurs
Sin and Satan/Translating the Words/Biblical Commentaries with Dragons
Saints and Slayers
Dragons of the seas and sky
Dragons in the Bible, Q&A
There is a lot of information in this book but it provides so much fun for both the young child and the older one as well as adults, even my husband was intrigued by this book. A wonderful source for information both non-fictional and fantastical! A must add to your book collection and if you’re a homeschooler like me, this could lead to one awesome unit study!
**I was provided a copy of this book from New Leaf Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion, no other compensation was given.
