Absolutely terrifying. Phenomenal writing. Loved the lead characters. Hope this is the start of a series.

Could not put this book down, every chapter was absolutely enthralling. The execution was engaging and refreshing, while still giving us some surprises and twists. The author fully submersed you in to the world and you felt for the victims. The 3rd act was a constant nail bitter with such a satisfying ending.
Excited to read more about Valerie Hart!

This books is in the point of view of multiple characters. You get in the head of the serial killer, and you get to feel every thought and emotion with him. You get to work the case with the cop, see how she processes everything, and deals with her daily struggles. You get to see what Angelo and Nell, who are stuck waiting, have to deal with during these few days.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. There was a little bit of fluff, but that was okay with me. It added to the characters.

Oh. My. Gosh.
Review taken straight from the back of the book...
“Do not read this. No reader deserves to be terrified like this.”
I kid you not, there were parts of the story I had to read with my hands gripped while my feet were tapping away wildly on the floor.
Gritty, dark, terrible, explosive, awful, gut-wrenching, and SUCH. A. GOOD. READ.
IF — and ONLY IF — you can handle all of the above.
Would ABSOLUTELY recommend for lovers of gritty thrillers.

I both loved it and didn't. Nothing in this book compares to the first few chapters in it. They are beautiful and haunting. For that reason i'm glad I read it. What disappointed me is that, as most murder mystery novels do, it got a tad ridiculous at the end there. Things happened that made me roll my eyes and say "yeah, right." I still read most of it in a day and enjoyed the mystery. I just might read the next one.

At times I really enjoyed this book and at other times i found myself wondering.... does this really work.

I listened to the audio book and had the same mixed emotions about the narrator. Overall, the story was suspenseful and entertaining. However, when it ended I wondered if the parts that didn't work for me were because of the narrator or the writing. Apparently the main detective has other stories that she stars in which honestly had very little pull for me. The killer was more interesting to me. The detective was okay but at times a bit cliche. Also I was really disappointed in the side little rivalry she was having with another detective. Maybe real grown women act that way but I haven't met them. It was just so petty.

So this book...at times it was really quite good - the early parts about Angelo and Nell seemed like they were written by a completely different author they were that good. As to the rest of the book, pretty boiler plate psychopath/troubled detective sort of stuff. This book is very graphic - as in [a:Chevy Stevens|3163298|Chevy Stevens|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1379458276p2/3163298.jpg] graphic so if that sort of violence bothers you, I would shy away from this book. I went with the third star instead of just two because of the passages that were really well written- without those this one would have been a solid 2 for me. The fact checking about how far it is from St.George to Logan Utah is also waaaaay off - those sort of easy to check details are crazy making to me. This is obviously the first in a series; I will not be reading anything else by this author.

Also, the author has one of the top 10 cheesiest author photos of all time - I would change that if it were me!

The opening scene gripped me in the middle of the book store and I knew I'd be drawn in. Really was a satisfying read for me.
