The topic of creatures in the sea is a fascinating one! With this book, you get a chronological tale of dealing with one of these creature in particular: octopus. I found it to be one of those books where you have to shut your brain and just go with the flow- some parts were confusing to understand and others had repetitive writing. Might be a translation problem, I’m not completely sure. I didn’t feel any strong emotions to any characters, there wasn’t much time spent with really diving into them, nor did I feel anything for the situation as well.

First of all, I'm assuming that this is a translated work so I'm trying to take that into consideration.
The bare bones of this story was intriguing and had the potential to be a great book. But it just was not executed well. I didn't mind the science-y bits. The science fiction bits were satisfyingly entertaining.. and creepy. The setting worked for me. And as someone who watches sci-fi disaster movies, I was not disappointed or surprised by the delivery of environmental admonitions and warnings. But there were plenty of points in the story where I was like, "well, THAT'S creepy and unsettling!" so I'm giving it a 2.5 stars.
But the (assumed) translation issues were many. Several idioms (I'm guessing) really took me out of the story and sent me to Google. The constant use of "the girl" everywhere you expected to read "she" or "her" was annoying. And lots of words throughout really made it seem like it was a literal word-to-word translation instead of a more meaning-to-meaning translation.
