She writes well and she artfully created a definite gray, sad, slightly voyeuristic feel to the book, but the mood of the book didn’t appeal to me and I wanted a story that was more engaging. It’s just wasn’t for me and I was bored.

Picked this book up after reading Station Eleven and was not the biggest fan. The story was interesting but mostly just felt like a description of what is already stated on the back cover summary. Some character reactions to things were ridiculous (why are we soooo appalled at some graffiti ?!) which made the story hard to get into at the beginning.

There’s magic in The Glass Hotel, but it doesn’t have much to do with place, it seems. Which would probably have been a fine adjustment on my part if not for all the other disjointed means of storytelling in this book.

3.5 stars? Beautifully written, well structured — I enjoyed reading it. I’m just left feeling…left. I wanted something a bit more to come of the slow-boiling intrigue. It’s worth a read.
