I love a good twisty thriller. Barclay did a great job at making me think I had it all figured out just to turn the page and realize I had no clue.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest, independent review.

Miles is a multi-millionaire who has more money than he can ever spend. Now facing a terminal illness, Miles is accessing his future and his past. Somewhere out there, he has biological children, conceived from his sperm donations at a fertility clinic, and they are about to inherit both the good and the bad from him - his fortune, but possibly something they do not want.

Miles decides to track down his biological children, but someone is one step ahead of him, wiping each one out, one by one, without a trace.

This is the first Linwood Barclay novel I have read, and a fantastic choice to start with! It was action-packed and fast-paced from the start, full of twists and mystery keeping me guessing. Lots of things happened that were totally unexpected to me; I loved it.

I loved the character of Miles; I expected him to be a bit of a rich snob, but he was likeable and heartwarming. I also liked Chloe, one of his potential biological children; she was feisty and a really strong female character.

A brilliant read full of suspense from the start.

This book relies on too many crazy coincidences for the plot and preposterous caricatures for the characters. If I'm going to read something so divorced from reality, it ought to have dragons or aliens or something. Instead, this falls into an uncanny valley realm of unbelievability where I could neither take it seriously nor "just go with it."

If you are looking for something fun that twists and turns, you'll enjoy this book. There were many instances where I was uncertain of how this all tied together but each story was compelling on its own that I was willing to find out. A dash of genetics, two overly wealthy men, and a list of missing young adults leads you down a fantastic storyline that has a fantastic ending. Truly imaginative and such a fun read!
