Good book, but not as good as her memoir, showing that reality is often more interesting and compelling than fiction.

Engaging book but didn’t really grab me like the glass castle did. Probably a 3.5-4 star book

I enjoyed The Glass Castle & thought I would give The Silver Star a try. Just like The Glass Castle, the main characters have to fend for themselves while their mother is temporarily absent. I really liked the plot line of this novel! This was a quick read for summertime.

Really? I got lost between all the various stories going on, which all seemingly led nowhere. (Sigh)

I enjoyed the book. It took a turn I wasn't expecting and although I enjoyed it, some of the character development wasn't completely believable.

If you have read Walls memoir you can see the connections between Bean and Liz's life to Walls own. I really enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend it as a read.

Jeanette Walls knows what it is like to grow up in a dysfunctional, poor family. In this story, the characters are young girls dealing with a delusional mother. The girls figure out how to take care of themselves. Luckily, they find the support of an uncle. All of the characters were well-developed. Although the story-line was not as strong as in her other books, this book was not a memoir, or based on her life. That may be way it doesn't have the same punch. I enjoyed meeting these characters and spending some time in the small town in this story. I really loved the ending.

It was an easy book to read, but it was not nearly as good as The Glass Castle.
