Was genuinely interesting and everything, just had trouble following and staying engaged with the book. No fault to the author.

This book was definitely fascinating, and had enough mystery, creepiness, and hidden corners to keep me reading through, but I had to give it three stars because the twist of Beverly being the one responsible came a bit out of nowhere for me.

She was described and written as an odd person, though one who seemed warm to Ben. Things got creepy when he and Marty went to check her abandoned house, but did I miss something?? All of a sudden he's telling the police to look into Beverly because of the house and the weird symbol and his talk with Robbie, and then BAM, we get the phone ringing in the locked room and the ending. Again, unless I missed a clue, the ah-ha came a bit out of left field.

A slow burn that made mad throughout, including the ending.

I really liked the plot of this story, but there were a lot of questions left unanswered. Overall, it was pretty captivating throughout the entire book and was certainly hard to put down. That being said, the ending did not align with the buildup of the entire story, and another 50+ pages of the book would have made for a far better conclusion.

I understand why the ending is so unpopular, but it was genuinely my favorite part of the book. Sometimes you need a gut-punch ending.
