Is Sanctuary safe anymore? Vara is targeted by a group of assassins and must leave for the safety of the guild. Cyrus knows she needs protecting so accompanies her back home to the Elven city of Termina. Why is Vara being targeted is it something from her past or is this part of the bigger picture?
As this series continues the writing and the characters seem to improve. What is nice through this book is that Cyrus is not just a perfect hero he has flaws and makes mistakes. One is made in this book that could have major consequences going forward.
I found that the fighting scenes were more enjoyable as there was a balance of focusing on others but it also seems to link with Cyrus developing as a general. This set itself up well for the next book in the series.

This series keeps getting better and better. I thoroughly enjoyed this third installment in the Sanctuary Series. The character development continues and the intricacies of the world building have progressed well beyond what I found rather lacking in the first installment in this series. The hopeless romantic in me had hoped that Cyrus and Vara’s relationship had worked out. Alas, Vara made her decision. I look forward to reading the next book.
