I think this is my second or third reread. sometimes I'm just a sucker for nostalgic urban fantasy.
stray follows faythe, a shifter who turns into a tabby cat. she is called back to her "pride" aka pack when tabbies start getting kidnapped. sucked back into her ranch, we see old feelings & conflicts arise between faythe, her family, and her ex boyfriend, marc. faythe is probably one of the least liked fmcs - she's selfish, stubborn & impulsive. she can make rash, unwise decisions. I dislike these things about her too, but I just kind of like having an fmc that's imperfect. there's definitely some aspects of this book that doesn't agree well, and overall, I find the way this author writes about SA to be a bit problematic, I enjoy this story and it has a surprising bit of political intrigue for an urban fantasy (this continues to build throughout the series). despite some of the darker themes, the time of the book leans more funny/sarcastic-y. there were definitely moments in the book that could have stayed emotionally tense and driven, but that I felt were ruined by the humor a bit.
for some reason this is just a comfort read of mine lol
