This is a really good book for what it is. And it's a shocking reminder of the quality of writing and storytelling you used to get out of "supermarket" paperbacks. Low rating is because the 90s racism reads more like 70s racism and while the solution was believable the book left it until the last 5 pages to the point where it felt like a random plot bandaid

It wasn't a bad mystery book, but it was a pretty sub-par and disappointing romance. The relationship between Claire and Cassidy was the REAL horror here, and I honestly think the book would have been better without it.
