FRESH BREWED MURDER by Emmeline Duncan is a standard cozy mystery! I was interested to read this once since I’m a coffee lover but this book takes the coffee to the extreme! The main character, Sage, owns a coffee cart in Portland and discovers a murder right by her cart. In the first three chapters the same metaphor was used three times! Most of the book was about Sage making coffee and dealing with her coffee business. The murder was barely a part of her life and her storyline. I don’t think I would read the next book in this series as I know everything about coffee now! The recipes at the end were a nice touch.

This book turned out not to be quite what I expected. I went in thinking I was going to get a murder with a side of coffee but really received coffee, family, and friends with a side of murder.
3.75/5 is what I landed on.
I ended up appreciating the new take on the more active look of our "prime suspect's" day to day life while murder still hangs in the background. I liked almost every character and their contribution to the family-like state of the novel. I really felt the mafia-like vibes throughout. I'll look forward to seeing how this develops in the series.
I liked learning about the new coffee business that Sage and Harley are running and the list of opportunities they are trying to obtain.
The mystery ended up not feeling like the focus of the novel, but I had fun reading it regardless.
The only thing that really didn't make this quite a 4 for me was how things sometimes worked out too perfectly and how Sage happens to know the exact person who can help.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a cozy, fun, quick mystery read. And, anyone who would like a couple of extra recipes. I'm looking forward to trying some of those out!

This was more of a cozy book about coffee than a cozy mystery. Wasn’t for me.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book via Goodreads giveaway.
This book wasn't a typical cozy mystery, in my opinion. I was expecting the main character, Sage, to be more involved in looking for the killer. It seemed that the clues she needed to catch the killer fell into her lap. She didn't have to go looking for much.
I also felt that the book went too in detail about Sage's personal life. While reading, it often felt that the author forgot she was writing a mystery novel and instead just wrote about everyday events in Sage's life. I understand that some of this is needed, but I felt that a lot of it was just fluff that could have been removed in editing.
I did like that the ending chapter wrapped up all the loose ends and answered any questions that the reader may have about the murder. The author also left the reader hanging a bit about Sage's future with Bax and Zarek, the two guys she dates throughout the novel. I feel that this was a good choice for anyone who continues to read the series.
