Between the Acts was written after World War I and Woolf had chose to end her life before completing it. The story follows a village pageant play that nature disrupts time and time again.
I don’t quite understand Woolf’s novel… maybe it’ll be better when I reread it? I’m just too confused by the evershifting interior thoughts and external perspectives.

After finish this novel l got the feeling I did't grasp everything Virginia Woolf intended to say with it. However, her writing alone worths the read.

well, i liked it enough to add it to my thesis last minute:) both really funny and tragic—i can’t believe it’s my last Woolf book of the semester. i wish the theme of a global rise of fascism wasn’t as relatable

Not the biggest fan of the acts (of the pageant within the book), but I loved what was between them.
However I will not get over the explicit racism on p.90.

The modernists asked “how do we even create art in the aftermath of an event which has completely upended the way we experience the world” and Virginia Woolf said “by putting on the best musical this town has ever seen”

Very difficult book to rate due to just kind of how strange it is, but after sitting with it for a while I’m tentatively giving it 4 stars.

The ending is quite quite good. Not my favorite of her novels but very good in its own way. Easier to understand than some of the others, a lot less dense. Still, less profound. But it had its really great moments and lines and I appreciate it for what it is
