Oh well. What a waste. I guess I can't rate it since I haven't finished this book but that's not gonna stop me from sharing my thoughts.
Hmm... let's see. I barely got through the first nine chapters when I decided this one was not worth my time. The thing is, the blurb portrays the story to be one of hate and passion and so far I haven't seen any of it. The Duke of Blackmore accidentally killed the then Viscount in a duel. Now the present viscount, his younger brother Lucien intends to exact revenge on the duke. Must be some diabolical plot to inflict endless pain on his grace. No. It's quite simple, really. Seduce the sister and keep her from ever meeting him. What an outstanding plan for revenge.
Speaking of the sister. My god. I wouldn't have to read the book to know she's dumb as a door. In the first chapter, she completely loses her head when she sees Lucien for the first time. So handsome omg I'm gonna die. She's supposed to be a respectable lady with proper manners. Hmm, must have been some education that she lets Lucien kiss and undress her within five minutes of the meeting. Mind you, their first meeting. She doesn't know the guy, not even his name, and lets him put his tongue down her throat, ready to shed her clothes at his command. Not even after knowing that it was his plot to scandalize her, she's still crazy about him. She's not angry at him for using her. Nope. She's a total puppet. I'll let you use me as long as you are an adonis.
You might think Lucien hates Blackmore with every fiber of his being for ruining his family. There's literally no emotion when he meets the duke to propose marriage. Nothing to signify his anger, his immense desire for revenge. That was a total daft. And despite knowing that Lucien is doing this for revenge, Victoria is hungry for his attention to even hope to have a peaceful wedding with him. What the hell is wrong with her?
The characters are lackluster. The plot is good but its execution is a miss. I can't even continue reading this.
Side note: I have been reading a lot of HR with badass heroines with so much sass that this meek shy whatever Victoria totally felt bleak to me at the first sentence.
