reading my way through the rescued from ruin series and happy to say i’m having a jolly good time with it ☺️
[b:the madness of viscount atherbourne|24314975|The Madness of Viscount Atherbourne (Rescued from Ruin, #1)|Elisa Braden|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1441715720l/24314975._SY75_.jpg|43893482] had a bit of a slow run but i still enjoyed it for the most part. due to some *minor* issues i had to drop my rating to 3 ⭐️‘s. mainly bc i didn’t feel particularly captivated by the two main characters as much as i’d hoped to. atherbourne was eh, okay and victoria was as delightful as they come but that was just that, there was nothing really drawing me in to their journey. harrison was interesting tho, i’m looking forward to his story in book two, so i guess that’s one tick for the pro’s column ☺️

Recommendation for the Rescued from Ruin series in general- If you like steamy romances in the regency era with well-fleshed out characters, sharp commentary from a character that's a mix between Dowager of Downton Abbey and Lady Olenna Tyrell from GoT, and a couple of diabolical villains thrown in, pick this series and you won't regret.
I read Confessions of a Dangerous Lord first. So this wasn't my introduction to this series. I am not usually into bad boy characters and yet this series has me questioning my preferences lol.
At the outset, I guess this wouldn't be at the top of the list for many. I am personally also not a fan of romance that starts with seduction (however willing the other party is), but for whatever reason and to my big surprise I loved it. The marriage at first seems unnecessary and sort of counter-intuitive to revenge, but as the book goes on, it appears a diabolical plan.
I started the book with not liking Lucien Atherbourne much to feeling heartbroken for him by the end of it. I don't think I could have forgiven so easily. Victoria appears to be just the right sort for him. Again, she is one of the sweeter, uncomplicated heroines in this series.
It also sort of establishes three camps from the start – Atherbourne and Tannenbrook, Blackmore and Dunston, Chatham and Colin. Having read the whole series, it's interesting to know how it goes from there.
It doesn't have much else apart from the revenge plot gone awry, but like I said for unexplained reasons, I am quite fond of it.

A typical historical romance with balls, scandals, duels, and two dummies not realizing they are falling in love.
