I give it a 3 for the ending - I enjoyed that. the writing was just atrocious tho. my notes:
  • over explaining everything, repeating stuff we already know
  • descriptions are so elementary and again, overly explained
  • insta love vibes
  • “I this this and this, because this this and this” like you dont need to KEEP EXPLAINING
  • full names. multiple times. ick
  • TOMS?!?!?
  • just super cringey lines.. “I start to question my own mortality and entertain the thought that maybe I became a vampire overnight “

I liked this book it was good. Being an artist I like the concept of the art used in this book, Owen I think has won me over for a book crush. Hahahaha. 

The story itself was good, I felt it picked up just over half way , the first half I kept thinking haven't I just read this, it just felt repeatative.
 Auburn just felt flat to me the whole time through, I understand that she had so much going on but she was a very flat character for me again she didn't show her character until towards the end is when I started liking her. 

Overall it was a good colleen hoover read but placing in the middle of my rankings.

Really enjoyed this book! Sad and hopeful at the same time.
I loved how the past connected to the current situation and characters. Definitely seemed like fate! I was so glad they got Trey and Lydia out of the picture and Owen’s relationship with his dad was on the mend.

I'll start by saying I don't think Hoover's books are for me, or more like I'm not the target audience. The characters were frustrating, the plot a bit implausible, the overall love story disappointing. The only part I appreciated was the believability of staying in a toxic relationship in the hope that you might get custody of your child. I realize that I'm being super judgey and that there are people out there who can relate to the characters and their experiences in this book. Just a book not for me.

I’m not going to lie, I bought this book because the cover was pretty, and I went overboard on a Waterstones haul. I had no clue what this book was about, and I felt like this book was very rushed.  

This book has two points of view. The first is Auburn Reed and at twenty-one, she has already lost everything important to her. In her fight to rebuild her shattered life, she has her goals in sight and there is no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the artist who works there. Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that this artist is keeping a major secret from coming out. The second point of view is Owen Gentry, and he is stuck in a rut and all he can think about the girl from five years ago. He paints people’s confessions as well as it’s his own. Owen needs to tell Auburn his secret, but the magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it. To save their relationship, all Owen needs to do is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin. 

I don’t know what it is, but when Colleen Hoover writes a book to do with jail and police officers, I struggled. I thought Trey was a coward and a complete asshole and I wanted to know if he ever had charges or if his mother cut contact with him. I want to know if Lydia apologies to Auburn and if she sorted herself out. I want to know if Owen’s father stayed clean and if he still is a judge. I just felt like the story was rushed and I felt like the characters were very 2D. Auburn was stereotypical young mum trying to build her life but grew up sheltered that she fell for a stranger who is talented. Owen was just hooked on Auburn from “love at first sight” which just annoyed the shit out of me. Again, Trey needs to die. This storyline was just too frustrating and slightly boring. I felt like Auburn and Owen’s relationship was very insta love and very bland and I just thought they would be better on their own. I think Auburn spent most of the time being like “I need to focus on my kid” and yet she was thinking about Owen.  

Emery is the only reason why this book isn’t two stars. She should have shot Trey with his own gun; it would have done the world a favour. 

I went from Verity to this and was disappointed and I’m glad that this is the last book of Colleen Hoover that I’ve read because I think I’ve had enough of her.
