Another beautiful piece of work by Claire Keegan. Heartbreaking and inspiring that illustrates how affection and compassion can change the life of a child.

Something in me has been ripped out or pulled away. I want to pour over this book and pick apart the language and structure of it. Truly a well written novella.
5 stars is a feeling and this feeling is horribly empty and yet heartwarming all the same.
The last line broke me. I started sobbing uncontrollably and cried for half an hour after finishing the book. I still feel like crying thinking about it. But damnit Mr Kinsella is her dad now. Ambiguous endings normally upset me but this way I can live believing in my optimistic heart that she went to live with them and knew what love felt like. What a good dad was.

This filled me with a comforting melancholy. As with Small Things Like These it manages to do a lot with a little (<90 pages) and although you could blaze through it in no time the subtle moments and conversations reward taking your time.

Also the line "My sisters look at me as though I'm an English cousin" made me laugh.
