I listened to the audio and it was lovely. The language and the style drew me in immediately. A lot is going on without a lot being said. And I had to go look up a summary to make sure I understood what I thought I understood. Although I think if I’d been reading rather than listening I wouldn’t have questioned myself because I would have been able to go back and reread, and because I wouldn’t have been reading it in an accent. (But being able to hear the reader’s accent was definitely a positive and I’d have been sad to miss it.)

Content consideration: An instance of strong language. But with the accent I almost didn’t even catch it.

A foot wide and a mile deep, this is a beautiful novel about familial love outside of a biological family, the struggles of poverty as a child, and opening up to other possibilities after loss. I do not cry much since I have cried while reading a book, but this one broke the streak.
