i am so conflicted on whether i like short stories or not because sometimes i love them and sometimes i feel like they are very rushed. this one went by SO fast and sometimes when that happens and the character is meant to have changed so deeply and fundamentally i feel like ive only skimmed the surface of it because it all happened so fast but other than that this was good! not something i would pick up on my own but my mom begged me to read it so i did. the writing was really good and i loved the setting of course

A bittersweet novella from the perspective of a little girl who gets a taste of what family could be.

“Foster” is brief but highly emotive - as much about what is said as what is not said. Keegan swiftly develops a sense of comfort and home despite the lingering awareness that it cannot last.

I read this after having seen the film adaptation “The Quiet Girl”. For once, the film version took longer than the read, a quick one, and is all the better for it. This is a story that is best when you allow it to marinate and seep into your consciousness. Beautiful.
