This was a good book to rediscover how much I loved this world.

I liked learning more about how vampires are made, what the rules are, etc. The pairing of the two storylines of both main characters and how they were both turned and the story of Marcus and its historical significance was interesting, but not super compelling.

It was nice to check in with Matthew and Diana and see where they and the twins are at in their lives though.

The audiobook narrator did an excellent job! I’m glad I chose to read the audiobook!

I had several issues with this book: 1) It was Marcus’ origin story, but it was competing with his present-day romance/Phoebe’s story, as well as the continuity of Diana and Matthew’s new family. Too many things vying for my attention. Would’ve been better if it focused on just one of these. 2) Most stories revolving around war bore me. 3) While I got to know Marcus’ prior life better, I still feel like I don’t really know him. Nor do I feel any closer to liking or understanding Phoebe.

What I did like: how the twins are growing up and developing. They are so cute!!!

Hoping Blackbird Oracle is a better read.

A good comfort read. If you have not read the All Souls trilogy, do not start here. Times Convert is a welcome look into the life of Marcus, Matthew’s son and the journey to becoming a vampire, in this universe’s version anyway.
