Picked up this book at my county library's sale and thought it sounded interesting. I enjoyed the boating aspect of the book, but at times it seemed like the author assumed the reader would know the technical terms of boating or the boat itself. The book lacked suspense, action, and details that would really make it standout. It was readable, but nothing to recommend to anybody.

I loved the main character. This was a great story that kept me on the edge of my seat.

This was a gripping thriller. It was very different from his other books but has a great cast of characters. I would hope he would follow up with more.

Enjoyable, not as good as some of his other books.

Gale Force was a fun read; a little weak on plot and characters, perhaps, but pretty entertaining regardless. As the crew of the Gale Force attempts to win the contract to save the Lion, and then actually attempts to save the Lion, a Yakuza boss tries to regain something that was stolen from him. The only character that was really given a backstory was McKenna, the captain of the Gale Force. The rest of the characters felt like set pieces. We don't learn much about them and they were little more than caricatures. Realistically, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed this at all if I hadn't listened to the audiobook read by Karissa Vacker. She's a wonderful narrator and I liked how she made sure each character had their own voice.

I've enjoyed reading almost all of Owen Laukkanen's books, and this was no exception. It seemed that the suspense would never end; as soon as one problem was solved, new ones came along, and there was always the elephant in the room that we knew would need to be resolved.

If you like cold, wet, stories with stormy ocean trips, you'll like this one. It takes place along the coast of the Pacific NW in Washington and Canada, mostly in the water and almost always on a ship of some sort, except for the unlucky few who didn't manage to stay on board.

The main character was the captain of a tugboat, a young woman who inherited her skills and the boat from her father, who drowned while she was in charge. She has a great crew who are like family, and they keep things interesting. There is also some on again-off again romance going on. And I guess the subject of the story is how far people will go in order to get or hold on to a large sum of money. The answer is, pretty damn far.

I've basically run out of books to read by this author, except for a YA novel that I actually started once but decided it was too YA for me to spend time on. I hope he has some more in the pipeline.

The book I’ve been waiting for all summer. Caught my eye during my first visit back to a library since they reopened after being closed since March. Kept me at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. So well-written, I felt like I was on board the Gale Force and Pacific Lion with the characters. Highly recommend to everyone looking for an epic adventure that you won’t be able to put down once you start reading.

I had to read this one just because of the title. And I like adventure on the seas stories. But although it was a fast read, it was just a little too predictable with cookie cutter characters.
