I'm stumped when try to give this a rating. I like it cos I was able to relate to some of the pages, yet at same time, I hate it when I manage to relate as it slightly soured my mood.

So I'm gonna give it a 3.5 stars as it's all absolutely fine.

A sad/fun collection of comics + essays about depression, eating disorders, anxiety, and managing adulthood.

I've been following Ruby on social media for a few years now and I knew I'd love this book as soon as she announced it (which I then of course forgot about until a week ago). It's funny and relatable in the best (and worst) ways.

Some of the artwork was familiar from tumblr, and I loved almost all of it though a few, especially in the beginning, felt more like filler pieces before the book picked up. Most of the artwork and the written entries I read eagerly, but some were too long or too small or just fell flat. I loved the randomness of the book but the weird spelling got a little annoying after too long.

I loved her representation of mental illness, self harm, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders. I don't actually follow this tumblr myself, so I had no idea what to expect. It was a very honest, heartfelt, and thoughtful book dressed up to look like all funny memes. It's a great example of using humor as a coping mechanism and it just made the huge personal truths she revealed more impactful. It takes true talent to pull that off and it's an awesome work of art. I wish it would be out before Christmas, because I definitely have a friend I want to buy it for ASAP.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

fuck, this really hit me like a ton of bricks. I already knew Ruby's artwork so I wasn't surprised to like that. but those little notes on herself were way too relatable to me. although it made me realise that I'm probably not doing so well mentally, again, since I recognised myself in a lot in this book, it also gave me hope that I can indeed manage it.

4.5 stars - Its as-if Ruby Elliot was able to get a glimpse into my mind and write down what its like to me be. She is able to describe an array of mental illnesses in an authentic way I've never seen done before. I can't wait to shove this in my husband's face so he can hopefully get a better grasp as to what its like to be inside my head.

(The ending was a bit disorganized which is why it wasn't a full 5 stars!)

Who knew depression, anxiety, and eating disorders were so hilarious? Okay, of course they are not, but Ruby Elliot will change your mind about all that nonsense. She turns the mundane into insane, and the normal into a chaos festival. You do your crazy thing sweet Ruby, it’s working.

Apesar de abordar os temas com bom-humor, a autora retrata situações muito complicadas, com as quais muitas pessoas podem se relacionar. Achei interessante.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC via NetGalley!
