Keine Ahnung was ich da gehört habe.

Listened to it as a German audiobook, which made the story nice listening to while you’re doing smth else. Probably I would have never read the story … or given up after the first few pages.
It’s a cozy story, in a way … not man things happen, you get introduced to the villagers of a small village, their relationships, beliefs and so on. However the real plot of the whole book, the story behind the castle happens in the last 5-8 chapters of the book. Even though it was nice listening to the narrator the story could’ve been much, much shorter if the focus was on the story of the two lords and the singer.

Not great, not bad. Felt more like a short story extended to be book length. It was odd that it was divided between two main characters (Nic Deck and the Count), didn't feel very directed.

A simple gothic vibes story when compared to The Mysteries of Udolpho or Dracula. I liked the little digs the townspeople have for the shepherd and the doctor characters, but the Scooby-do-reveal of the technology behind the phantasms isn’t as impressive from the vantage of the 21st century.
