I saw the movie first and was very drawn to the story so decided to read the book.
Ultimately, this makes my favorites list without a doubt. Some reviewers complained about the choppy style with the poems/letters throughout the book, but I found they made the story much more historical and fascinating. I really liked the way it was presented.
I have so much I think and feel about this book, but I am having trouble finding words for this review. It was very unique perspective during the holocaust, ultimately about a unique love story. The whole story was very thought-provoking.

this book was definitely interesting. it was sad, as excepted, but i just didn’t like the set up. i did learn more about the way if life during the war and the holocaust and how germans had to deal with as opposed to life in concentration camps. i cant say i liked it but i did learn something, so that is something.

This book had a huge impact on me when I read it as a deeply closeted teenager.
It's a very moving historical account, tried to get every detail right, which might seem a bit too eager at times, but was also a painful and touching reminder of the reality of the story.
I remember the poetry in it to be one of the things that stuck with me the most - but I haven't gone back to it since those teenage times.

A very dense but worthy read about imperfect victims of the Nazi regime.

Um, I found Aimee a tad creepy and tragic both. I also found reading all those love letters embarassing so I mostly skimmed :P yes, yes, I'm silly.

I loved the story. It was heartfelt and moving. The way this book was written felt disjointed and hard to follow. It felt like part textbook, part diary, part narrative. I wish the story had been a little more smoothly connected so I could follow and understand it better.

I don't know where I picked this book up, but it has been sitting on my shelf for so long that its providence has been lost to the annals of time. But I remember, at some point, thinking it looked interesting and taking it home.
It was interesting.
But.
But, I wanted it to be more. This read like an historical account, which is what it was, but the front cover of this book calls it "A Love Story, Berlin 1943". It was a story about love, but I wouldn't necessarily call this a love story. There are very few emotions in it. I expected to feel a lot about both these ladies who fell in love against insane odds, but I really felt not much more that interest. I liked this book, but I didn't feel much. Which disappointed me a bit.
