Some pages in the comic format were confusing to read by following the order with the panels not always lining up uniformly, but I liked the unique way of learning about the history and culture of Iran and its people. The portrayal by western media of Iran is completely different from who the majority of people from there actually are, according to the multiple creators of this book. The content is balanced very well between text heavy sections and that with less text. Even the art without the text tells a strong narrative. Hopefully, this graphic novel wins some awards and gains traction among readers to become more informed about the reality of Iran, its many revolutions, and the current state of the nation.
Graphic: Confinement, Death, Emotional abuse, Gun violence, Physical abuse, Self harm, Sexism, Torture, Violence, Police brutality, Grief, Religious bigotry, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, and Classism
