This is the first novella of Zweig that I’ve read, and I was not left disappointed. My mother wanted me read this book because school age children in Germany read this book as novel study and in the western world we tend to stick to the classics that we know and love.

This is a beautiful reflective piece. It showcased the raw aggression that victims of isolation face, and this made me compare it life as it is right now. Of course our isolations are not even close to what victims of Nazis endured.

I would be interested in re reading this when I’m older to see if I gain more understanding of the story when I have more experience in life.
