I'm not crying. You're crying!

Gorgeous story, memorable characters, heartbreak, and hope.

Oh, and lobsters!

I read this in prep to read a future book in the series from NetGalley, and really enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to the next two books!

I'm ready to go to PEI now, lol. Loved how the gospel was woven in, too.

I listened to the audiobook from Tantor Media read by Emily Ellet. The story was intriguing and yet a bit predictable. The reading itself was extremely slow, so I had to bump up the speed to 1.75 just to keep from falling asleep and help the story itself keep moving forward.

A cute contemporary fiction story! Full review here: https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2021/09/beyond-tides.html

Story rating 8/10 Christian faith rating 2.5/3
This is a Christian contemporary romance set on Prince Edward Island. I enjoyed the main character's family dynamics and the main romance. I also appreciated the faith content which was prominent whilst not being the main topic of the book. However, I thought some of the decisions they made were not wise for a Christian. The book is clean but the romance was a little too focused on physical attraction for my taste.

lol I loved this book. so funny and cute and wholesome but also deep stuff too and ARGHHH YEAH I LOVED THIS. also I loved how we saw their kid in the third book (yes i'm reviewing this late). Also i loved THEM. and MrWhitaker and Kyle were a vibe too. As were Levi and Violet and Mama Potts

Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson has Meg Whitaker enjoys her teaching position at the local high school. She gave up her dream to be closer to home when her mother became ill. Then Meg learns that her father is going to retire and sell Whitaker Fishing to her archnemesis, Oliver Ross. Meg does not want the business to go out of the family. Meg’s father decides to let Meg and Oliver compete for the business. They will work together for the season and at the end of it, her father will decide which one of them will get the fishing business. Neither one intends to lose. Beyond the Tides is a traditional Christian romance. The story has developed characters and a gorgeous setting. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of Prince Edward Island. It is a place I have always wanted to visit. I read Beyond the Tides, but I could not get into the story. It is a sweet romance that deals with healing, loss of a dream, forgiveness, illness, and love. There is talk about the lobster industry with its numerous regulations, building lobster traps, problem with a steady income, resentment from other fisherman, and sabotage. Beyond the Tide has some humor as well. The story is told from Meg and Oliver’s point-of-view. It alternates chapter’s so we get to see things from each person’s perspective. Oliver and Meg each have good reasons for wanting the business. What is the best way to resolve this conundrum? It is easy to predict how this story will play out. I would have liked more action that would have helped the pacing of the story (it was on the slow side). If you like to read Christian romances, then you will enjoy Beyond the Tides.

Liz Johnson is taking us back to Prince Edward Island with her latest series and I could not be more thrilled.

Meg Whitaker has decided to leave her job in teaching, to take over her father’s lobster fishing business. The problem is Oliver Ross, Mr. Whitakers employee, has already entered into a spoken agreement with Whitaker to buy the business. Meg and Oliver have been arch enemies since high school when Oliver destroyed Meg‘s science fair robot. Mr. Whitaker decides they should both run the business for the summer and he will decide at the end who will get to take over the business.

Can Meg and Oliver stand to work together for an entire summer? Who will win the competition? And will feelings get in the way?

This is such a sweet story of familial love. Meg’s relationship with her sick mom had me reflecting on my own relationship with my parents, not wanting to take one minute of our time together for granted.

The relationship between Meg and Oliver is also a sweet one to watch develop.

I’m looking forward to more in this series!

Thank you to NetGalley and Revell for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

"Megan, you will always be my little girl. And I'm here for you. I know all of this with your mom is hard. I know the answers we got weren't what we hoped for. But we're promised storms in this life. We're also promised that our hope in God is an anchor in those storms. He'll hold us steady even in the wind and the waves."
Knowing that this book was completed during the pandemic makes these words all the more poignant. I just adored Meg's dad!
If you are looking for a heartwarming story of love, forgiveness, second chances and sacrifice while learning about what it is like to be a lobster fisherman on PEI, pick up this newest release by Liz Johnson. I can't wait until the next one!
I am so thankful that there is a series set on Prince Edward Island that is very authentic to the unique Island and its people!
Thank you NetGalley for giving me a chance to review it.
